Claremont Authors Collection
Since 2007, the Friends of the Claremont Library have been engaged in developing a collection devoted to the works of significant writers who have resided in Claremont or who have an association with the city. The idea for the collection was originally conceived by the late Claremont historian Judy Wright.
Under an agreement with the County of Los Angeles Public Library, FOCL fully owns the catalogued collection, which is permanently housed in secure glass bookcases in the main room of the library. Accessibility to the catalogue of the collection is available online only. Use these instructions to peruse.
We are actively seeking additional donations to the collection. Please click here for donation guidelines. Those wishing to make a donation may contact FOCL by email: sma114(at)hotmail(.)com.
Telescope Lending Program
The Friends of the Claremont Library and the Pomona Valley Amateur astronomers (PVAA) are sponsors of the library's very popular telescope lending program. Patterned after a similar program in New Hampshire, the program has two Orion StarBlast Reflector telescopes that can be checked out for a week at a time to patrons age 18 and older who have a library card. (Parents can check out a telescope to use with their kids.) The Orion StarBlast is a sturdy tabletop telescope appropriate for beginners, and a user-friendly guide and other materials come with it. Our partnership with the PVAA includes their technical help and expertise as well as educational presentations at the library.
The two telescopes were named by library patrons in name-the telescope contests. They are the Claremont Galactic Space Viewer and the Tell-Me-Scope.
