The 6^th Annual Adult Community Spelling Bee on April 3^rd was a-buzzing with excitement!  The event included the El Roble cheerleaders, music, entertaining masters of ceremonies, a snack bar, children’s activities, basket raffle and many enthusiastic supporters of all the teams. The Claremont Globetrotters (representing the Community Friends of International Students) were triumphant with the winning word “scrobiculate.”   Awards were also given to the teams with the Best Fan club (Mt. San Antonio Gardens), and the Best Costume (Claremont Older Women’s Soccer). 

The biggest winner was our library as we raised over $5300 in much needed funding.  The money will be used to support the Children's Summer Reading Program, purchase books, DVDs, and special collections, and coordinate our citywide reading program.  Thank you to all of our Friends, volunteers, and supporters who participated and cheered on the participants!

Past teams have been local organizations such as the Claremont Rotary, League of Women Voters, and House of Ruth.  We have also had groups with no formal affiliation other than that they love the library and want to have a good time supporting it.   The winners earn a spot in the Claremont 4th of July parade and a year�s worth of bragging rights.
